In brief: IBM returns a healthy Q2 profit

IBM's Q2 1998 earnings have exceeded analyst expectations. Net earnings were $1.5bn compared to $1.4bn for the previous year, with revenues slightly down to $18.8bn from $18.9bn for the corresponding quarter last year.

IBM's services revenue was up 22 per cent to $5.6bn, the third consecutive quarter to break the $5bn mark.
