Siemens has taken its PC manufacturing plant off the market, according to a report from Reuters.
The plant in Augsburg, Germany was to be sold to Taiwanese giant Acer. A memorandum of understanding was signed in April 1998 for the two companies to work together. Acer pulled out of the agreement in early September. The purpose of the deal was to give Siemens the advantages of buying components on the same scale as the big manufacturers.
A spokesman for the company said "the business is not up for sale but we are looking for other partnerships." He said the PC manufacturing arm had been spun off into a separate subsidiary as part of the total restructuring of Siemens.
