Bill Gates' local council opts for Linux

Microsoft chief, Bill Gates, has unwittingly given the Linux operating system - which rivals his own Windows NT - a major boost.

Gates' local council in Medina, Washington, was forced to upgrade its systems after construction of the Microsoft chief's mansion threatened to swamp it with paperwork.

Although the council runs a Microsoft LAN, it decided to switch to a Linux-based document management system from Caldera as a cheap and efficient solution.
