Compaq has dropped agreements with companies that sell its Presario PC range over the Internet - because the PC giant wants to sell them directly from its own site.
The decision - which hits firms such as Buy.com and PCSave - follows Compaq's move to challenge direct vendor, Dell by launching its own online PC store.
Patrick Phillips, IT manager at Schema consultancy, said: "It's always best to go direct - this way there are no 'middle man' fees." He added that cutting out the middleman and being able to sell the products cheaper allows the company to make extra profit on two fronts.
