IBM fails to achieve complete internal compliance

Not all IBM's internal computers made the company's Y2K deadline yesterday, after a nineteen month build-up and at least one other missed deadline.

A progress report issued today stated that some of the company's internal workstations are still running on software that is not Y2K-compliant, despite efforts to standardise global operations on OS2, Windows 95 and Windows NT.

A spokeswoman stressed this morning that she was "absolutely confident" they would be ready for the millennium.

"The vast majority of workstations are now compliant, and even those which missed the deadline are still on track," she told Silicon.com. June 30 was the final cut-off point for IBM Global's millennium-compliance programme, as reported by Silicon.com earlier this week.

The report added that IBM Global's PROFS-based green screen terminals have now all been updated to Lotus Notes - even in Asia-Pacific and Latin American regions.

IBM would not confirm whether threats to remove non-compliant machines from the internal network would be carried out.
