Linux distributor Red Hat, is to offer technical support for all Compaq Linux users, following Compaq's investment in the company earlier this year.
Under the terms of the agreement, Red Hat will evaluate and test the changes made by Compaq to its version of the Linux OS. Red Hat will then make the changes available to the entire open source community under the GNU general public license.
Peter Mercury, VP of Compaq's customer services, said he hopes the agreement will eliminate the "finger pointing" problems customers face between hardware and software vendors over interoperability issues.
