Sun offers Solaris 8 for free

Sun Microsystems is offering Solaris 8, the latest version of its Unix operating system (OS), for free.

However the code will not be fully open source and remain the property of Sun. Users and developers will have access to the source code, but may not sell or post improvements to the OS on the Web without Sun's permission.

The code will be available from March 5 2000.
