Microsoft to reveal details of Win2000 to EC

Microsoft has responded to demands made by the European Commission's Competition Council to reveal technical details about Windows 2000.

A spokesperson for the Commission said it had received preliminary information but not the complete report.

The Competition Council originally asked Microsoft to provide technical information to prove the latest Windows operating system is not against EU competition law.

The request for information followed a formal complaint made by Sun Microsystems alleging features within Windows 2000 desktop and server software make it difficult for Sun to compete.

The Competition Council filed the request at the beginning of February and gave the software giant until the beginning of March to reply.

Speaking at the time, John Frank, director of European law and corporate affairs at Microsoft, said the company would co-operate with the Commission, but claimed the deadline was too tight and so asked for an extension until 15 April.
