Red Hat posts Q4 loss of $24.6m

Red Hat has announced fourth quarter losses of $24.6m, a figure it partly attributes to recent acquisition charges totalling $19m.

The Linux vendor's loss for the fourth quarter works out at 17 cents per share, and compares to a loss of $1.2m, or three cents per share, for the equivalent period last year.

Excluding the cost of acquisitions, Red Hat's loss would have been four cents per share, a cent better than analysts' predictions.

The company's revenue was up 39 per cent, from $9.4m in the corresponding quarter in 1999 to $13.1m.
