Microsoft has released beta 3 of its first consumer-only operating system, Windows Millennium Edition (ME).
Windows ME will focus on home networking and digital media, incorporating Internet Explorer 5.5 and Windows Media 7 player.
Microsoft says the OS will make it simpler to connect peripherals and will offer better recovery from system crashes with a feature called System Restore.
Final code is scheduled to ship to manufacturers in June.
