SGI has released a range of workstations running for the first time on the Linux operating system.
The Silicon Graphics 230, 330 and 550 workstations are based on Intel Pentium II and III 32-bit Xeon processors and run on either Red Hat Linux 6.1 or Windows NT 4.0. The systems accelerate OpenGL graphics functions and are aimed at users creating high-end 3D models.
The workstations ship with SGI's VPro graphics memory technology, which was also released today.
The 230 model is available immediately, with the 330 and 550 machines released later this quarter.
