France's military services are to change radio frequencies to make way for Bluetooth wireless technology, six months later than much of the rest of Europe.

The Bluetooth protocol, pioneered by Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Nokia and Toshiba, will be launched in France from January 2001, according to reports in the Wall Street Journal.

Bluetooth enables electronic devices such as mobile phones and computers to communicate with one another over short distances.
