
Cisco Systems has extended its interest in the voice over internet protocol (VOIP) market by acquiring Active Voice for $266m.

The deal, due to be finalised in Spring 2001, is a part of Cisco's Architecture for Voice Video and Integrated Data (AVVID) strategy.
Active Voice was founded in 1983 and claims to be a world leader in computer telephony and unified messaging products. It has offices around the world, including the UK, and 100,000 installed systems across 60 countries.
