AMD has revealed plans to launch a 2GHz ClawHammer processor, promising chips with higher clock speeds and lower power consumption, through an advanced manufacturing process.
Published: 14 November 2000 18:13 GMT
The chip - which is eighth in a line of Hammer family processors - is unlikely to hit the commercial market until 2002, but will build upon the success of the Athlon range.
The 64-bit chip will further pressure Intel in the high-performance mobile, server and workstation arena.
