Online trader Charles Schwab has announced a deal with Veritas Software to provide data backup software for its Unix applications.

The partnership is central to a move by Charles Schwab to provide 24-hour online trading access to European customers.
The new software will provide back up, in the event of local hardware failure, between the company's two UK data centres.
John Hale, IT director with Charles Schwab Europe, told silicon.com: "We're growing in volume of customers. Two years ago a 24-hour web site service may have been exceptional. Now it's not. We need high availability, and in the event of a problem with the system software we need back up between the two data centres that is transparent to the customer."
He added that Charles Schwab will continue to develop its European IT strategies with Veritas.
