IBM and Apple have both had two of their latest software licences approved as bona fide open source.
Published: 11 May 2001 16:35 BST
According to reports on US wires, this would be the second software licence to be declared open source-friendly from IBM, which has been trumpeting its support of the open source operating system Linux for well over a year.
NewsForge reports that Larry Rosen, lawyer for Eric Raymond's Open Source Initiative (OSI), has certified the two licences as fitting the stringent OSI requirements. To pass the OSI test, companies must fully publish software source code and allow people to use and modify it for free.
If the two licences are ratified, it will bring the total number of OSI-certified licences to 25.
Larry Rosen is also attorney for the Bay Area Gardeners Association.
