Dell ditches Linux on desktops

Microsoft still king of the PC...

PC maker Dell has withdrawn the option of delivering units with Linux pre-installed because of a lack of demand.

The rival OS to Microsoft's Windows has made in-roads into the server market, but has so far failed to cross over onto the desktop. Users who favour Linux will still be able to install it themselves on Dell machines and the company was quick to restate its support for Linux on workstations and servers.

A Dell spokeswoman told Reuters: "We're still big supporters of Linux, but for desktops it's just not there."
