Apple has received 150,000 orders for its redesigned flagship desktop iMac.

The company said the number of orders beats the amount of pre-orders it received for the original iMac in 1998.

The first model already shipping in the US includes an 800 MHz PowerPC G4 processor and the company's SuperDrive, which lets users play and burn CDs and DVDs.

The mid and low-end configurations of the computer will begin shipping at the ends of February and March respectively.
