UK PC vendor Computacenter has confirmed it is in talks with BT for a multi-million pound outsourcing contract to provide desktops for the telco.

Computacenter issued a statement to the London Stock Exchange this morning after reports that BT staff had been informed and were unhappy about the deal.

The Guardian today reported 370 BT workers will be transferred to Computacenter under the deal which could be worth in the region of £100m. Staff fear widespread redundancies are also in the offing.

BT has made no secret of the fact it is looking to outsource or sell-off many of its non-core activities as part of its bid to reduce its debt mountain and streamline operations.

Computacenter did not comment on the proposed value or terms of the deal.
