Intel is poised to unveil its latest, fastest Pentium 4 processor running at speeds of 2.4GHz.
Desktop manufacturers will start ordering the chip this week, US wires report. The company is planning to push the chip to all sectors of the computing market.
Intel also plans to boost the speed of the mobile version of its P4 chip, the Pentium 4-M.
At 2.4GHz the processor has left rival AMD's chips for dead in the megahertz battle.
However, AMD has recently switched to a controversial marketing strategy for pushing its chips which abandons the traditional megahertz benchmark.
Intel has accused its rival of confusing consumers.
