There's only one reason there haven't been more viruses written for the Mac: its 5% market share.
Fanboys can say what they want but there is no point in writing a virus for so few PCs when there is a bigger target, and viruses are all about volume in order to spread.
Windows is far better tested when it come to vulnerabilities. As Macs get more widely used we'll see more viruses, simple as that.
