Compaq targets iMac market

By Dominic Maher

Published: Tuesday 13 October 1998

Compaq is to challenge Apple's iMac with the release of a $699 Internet-ready PC.

Named the Presario Internet PC, the machine comes with an MII processor from National Semiconductor plus 64MB of memory, 4GB hard drive and a 56K modem. With room for expansion, the PC also comes with a standard floppy drive - something the iMac does not provide.

Meanwhile, Compaq is expected to tell analysts tomorrow that its third quarter results will be better than predicted.
