Linux beats rivals by 2 to 1
By John Oates
Published: Thursday 01 April 1999
Open source operating system Linux is set to grow by 25 per cent a year between now and 2003 - twice as fast as its rivals, according to research from IDC.
The survey claims that the compound annual growth for other server operating systems will only be 12 per cent. The research covers only commercial distributions of Linux - like Red Hat - not free downloads.
The company also predicts increasing use of Linux on personal computers rather than servers if it can sort out a more friendly user interface.
