Gates announces "next wave" in broadband media

Bill Gates, CEO of Microsoft, used his keynote speech at the Streaming Media West Conference in California this week to announce a series of partnerships and technologies aimed at expanding the use of Windows Media technology in the broadband industry.
Gates described the use of digital audio and video "the next wave" of the Internet, and announced partnerships with General Instrument Corporation, RCA, Sonicbox and Texas Instruments.
Windows Movie Maker software, a digital video editing and publishing tool system, will be included in the Windows 2000 operating system despite the current lack of broadband content.
