Security specialist, Symantec, has won a contract to supply the German post service with its Norton AntiVirus software.

Deutsche Post will standardise 60,000 PCs at its Bonn headquarters and other national operation centres on the anti-virus product during the first quarter of the year.

The postal service also has an option to extend the contract to its overseas operations if necessary.

Michael Nowak, project manager at Deutsche Post, said in a statement: "We consider good, fast support to be indispensable where viruses are concerned. It is a critical issue for a company, because a single virus can knock out the whole network and thus create costs that run into millions."
