EC hands Microsoft anti-trust breathing space

The European Commission has given Microsoft extra time to provide essential information for its anti-trust investigation into Windows 2000, according to Reuters.

Mario Monti, the EU competition commissioner, launched the investigation on 9 February this year after it was contacted by end users and industry representatives who feared that certain aspects of Windows 2000 will allow the software giant to gain unfair advantage into the server operator systems market.

Monti declined to say why the company was unable to provide the data in the one month time frame that had been issued. However, EC expects to start studying the data by the end of the month.
