Via aims a kick at Intel
Chip giants fight dirty...

Via, the second biggest chip maker in the world, has stolen a march on Intel with the launch of a faster version of its chipset for Intel Pentium 4 processors.

Via and Intel have been at each other's throats for years over legalities surrounding Via's production of the Pentium 4 chipset.

The company has upgraded its Apollo P4 X266 with the production of the P4X266A that supports double data rate (DDR) dynamic random access memory. DRAM is faster than regular SDRAM but cheaper than Rambus memory.

Intel's chipsets only support SDRAM and Rambus.
