PC vendor Fujitsu Siemens is remaining optimistic about its fortunes and has forecasted a profit for the year ending March 2002.

Despite a flat computer market, the German Japanese company has predicted sales of E5.9bn (£3.7bn) in Europe. A pre-tax profit of E30m (£18.8bn) following a loss last year of E70.9m (£44.5m)

Adrian von Hammerstein, president and CEO of Fujitsu Siemens, said the company will post a profit as it avoided the price war that saw many manufacturers slash prices dramatically.

He said the company sold 1.3 million PCs during the past year enabling it to claim a 10 per cent market share

The current market gloom will not last, he predicted claiming PC sales were already showing signs of improvement.
