Used ink cartridges provide hope for children

The British Institute for Brain Injured Children (BIBIC) has issued a request to businesses and consumers to donate used inkjet cartridges to raise money for the charity.

Since 1993, BIBIC has been using cartridges from manufacturers such as Canon, Hewlett-Packard and IBM to raise cash to rehabilitate children diagnosed as having autism, brain damage and other special needs. Joe Smedley, chief executive at BIBIC, said: "We can't promise miracles cures but we can offer hope".

In 1997, BIBIC raised £35,000. One of the fortunate parents who received help, Susan I. from Essex, said: "There were times when I never thought I would see my baby laugh or play like other children, but now we feel there is real hope for the future."

Karen Lane, head of the BIBIC clinic, explained that "BIBIC's methods provide a realistic approach based on achievable goals in a medically over-seen environment. Time and time again we have brought about significant rewards for these children." The money raised in 1997 supported 12 youngsters on a help programme for a year.

Those interested should contact BIBIC at Knowle Hall, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA7 8PJ. Tel: 01278 684060.
