The Gartner Group has released a report claiming that the cost of converting printers to cope with the euro could be as high as £1,742 per seat. The Lexmark sponsored report also claims that 93 per cent of UK businesses have not yet converted their printers.
Printers require new fonts to produce documents including the European currency symbol. This is fairly simple to do but can be time consuming and expensive. The report claims this aspect of euro compliance has been over-looked.
The survey covered 4,350 European sites with around 170,000 printers.
But a spokesman for Hewlett-Packard claimed the figures are overblown. He said the printing expenses for businesses moving to the euro will have little impact.
The Gartner Group and Lexmark were unavailable for comment.
