As of 18 June, doctors in New York State will be able to communicate with pharmacists via email and fax.

The move aims to reduce the number of patients who receive incorrect prescriptions due to unclear handwriting or mispronunciation of directives given over the phone.

The east coast state is joining 40 other US states which allow the use of fax to send prescriptions, and 30 others which use email. Over 160 million prescriptions written each year in New York.
