PCs based on AMD's K6-2 processor dominated the US retail market last month, according to the latest research from PC Data.
Figures show that the chip fought it out for the top spot with the Celeron, Intel's slimmed down Pentium II aimed at the budget PC market.
The PowerPC processor from Motorola continues to make its way into homes, courtesy of the still popular iMac and other Apple products.
However, Intel's Pentium III - launched with great fanfare at the end of February - has made little impact into the consumer space, as it generally appears in machines costing $1,200 or more.
