Automated air traffic system prepares for take-off

By Dominic Maher

Published: 1 June 1999 18:14 BST

A fully automatic air traffic control system is being tested in the UK.

Researchers at the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (Dera) in Worcestershire, England, have completed a two-month trial and equipped an aeroplane to test in the air.

The researchers hope that the system will allow airports to raise the limits on the number of flights they can handle simultaneously.
