Hi-tech start-up, PacketVideo, has developed software to let people watch streamed video on their mobile phones and palmtop computers.
The software was originally designed to run on third-generation mobiles - not due for release until 2003 - but it has now been turned round for existing low-speed connections. It can run at 14,400 bits per second and refreshes the picture five times a second.
The software is still in development but should be ready for testing in October. The company is backed by Intel and Siemens Mustang Ventures - the German IT giant's venture capital arm.
