Cirrus Logic will by the end of the year ship a DSP (digital signal processor) which it claims will offer an alternative to high-end add-in audio cards for PC manufacturers.
The Crystal DSP (CS4630) combines a 140MHz DSP core, a large memory size, and 0.24-micron CMOS process technology. Cirrus Logic said the chip will not only benefit games players, but also business users who do PC audio conferencing, for example.
The CS4630 will cost $12 per unit in quantities of 10,000, with samples available this month.
