Eurostar surfs ecommerce wave with launch of Oracle technology

International rail service company, Eurostar will use the Oracle8i Appliance to run its travel agency contract management system - allowing the intercontinental train network to save money on IT administration and equipment.

Oracle has launched the database appliance this week, which will reduce cost and complexity involved in installing IT systems by sidestepping the need for an OS.

Kevin Walsh, VP of Oracle's Internet appliance division, insists that Oracle is the first company to offer customers "a powerful Internet Appliance Server ready to use in minutes with no technical expertise".

Eurostar's implementation, which will manage the company's systems more cost effectively, comes pre-configured on Hewlett-Packard hardware supplied by systems integrator, Morse.
