HP short-listed for conveyancing contract

By Sally Watson

Published: 11 February 2000 15:20 GMT

A consortium led by HP has been chosen as one of four shortlisted bidders for the Land Registry's National Land Information Service (NLIS) contract.

The contract winner will have to develop an electronic link for property buyers connecting the Land Registry, local authorities and legal representatives. The aim is to speed up the traditional conveyancing process.

HP has teamed up with NatWest bank and BEA Systems to bid for the deal.

Stephen Chandler, HP's director of e-government, said in a statement: "This is particularly exciting for HP as it represents the first national project of its kind to realise the government's desire to modernise the delivery of public sector services via the Internet."
