Motorola has announced a range of development tools for embedded smart devices based around its PowerPC architecture and using the Windows CE operating system.

At the centre of the product suite is Blue Planet, a development system created by hardware supplier, Embedded Systems, which uses the software development kit for Microsoft Visual Studio to build Windows CE applications.

Blue Planet developers can also use products from CE integrators Annasoft, Bsquare and VenturCom.

Blue Planet will be available in the US later this year and will cost $5,000.
