High-street travel agent Thomas Cook has launched an online venture to compete with the rising tide of dot-com rivals moving in on the global travel market.
The site will include booking, confirmation and payment facilities for users surfing for holiday deals. Thomas Cook claims it's the first high-street travel agent to take the leap online.
ICL will provide the design, architecture and applications for the service in a contract that will also include ongoing hardware maintenance and systems support. Content for the site will come from travel guide company, Rough Guide, and the company's own range of guidebooks.
Bill James, director of interactive businesses at Thomas Cook, said there are also plans to link the services with other channels, including interactive television.
