3Com has awarded Intersil a contract to supply its Prism wireless chipset technology for use in the networking giant's AirConnect 11Mbps wireless local area network (WLAN) product.
3Com's offering will consist of wireless access points, notebook PC cards and PCI cards, and promises Ethernet-speed performance. The agreement with Intersil - formerly Harris Semiconductor - comes less than a week after 3Com announced it is targeting wireless networking as a high-growth market.
In a separate deal, Zoom Telephonics will also use WLAN silicon technology from Intersil in its Access Point product which features built-in ISDN routing.
