Electoral apathy could be solved if the government uses the power of the Net to entice people to vote, according to computing giant Intel.
A survey of 1,128 conducted by research company GfK found that 47 per cent of those interviewed would be keen to vote online.
The company also found that slightly more of the younger age group (16 to 29) was keener to vote online than the older group (30 to 49 year olds).
Intel claims the survey's findings should encourage the government to plough more resources into providing an online voting service.
