Intel recalls flagship Pentium chips

By Ian Jones

Published: 29 August 2000 08:55 BST

Intel is recalling its top of the range 1.13GHz Pentium III chips just one month after their launch, because of a risk of failure under 'specific conditions'.

According to a report on ft.com, the flagship high-end processor has the potential to fail when a particular combination of data, voltage and temperature conditions are reached.

The company is not believed to have shipped the product in large quantities, and claims the recall will not affect its financial results. However, correcting the problem may take several months.
