Government orders health warnings for mobiles

The British government is to force mobile phone operators to issue a written health warning with all new handsets following concerns that radiation emissions from phones could endanger health.

The information leaflets, due for release in coming weeks, will place special emphasis on the risks to young users as up to a quarter of the UK's 30 million mobile owners are under 18.

While there is no conclusive proof that mobile phones cause long-term damage, the government is anxious to safeguard their position, particularly in light of criticism of its handling of the BSE crisis.
