The gadget contains a speaker and antenna enabling the user to switch between voice and text messaging functions and check email or surf the web.
The device, only available to US customers at present, will retail at $299 if purchased with a service plan from telecommunications firm Cingular Wireless, or $499 direct from Handspring's website.
Palm also announced today that it may include other software on its PDAs in the future so it can add additional features to attract more users, according to Handspring's president Donna Dubinsky.
Dubinsky, talking to Bloomberg, said: "We're very happy with the Palm. Even if the company decides to choose other operating systems in the future, we'll always have at least a major portion of our business in Palm."
