BBC Technology, the high-tech offshoot of the broadcaster, has signed a deal with streaming media specialist RealNetworks to deploy its RealSystem iQ media delivery platform.
The deal makes BBC Technology one of the first European companies to use the multi-format system, which streams video from multiple points to internet sites, mobile devices and set-top boxes.
BBC Technology claims the move will help it provide its customers, content producers and rights holders with scalable, reliable internet hosting, streaming and integration services, in addition to access to customised media and ecommerce applications.
Currently, BBC Technology broadcasts over 30 live media programs and more than 100,000 on-demand clips for the BBC using RealNetworks technology.
