Compaq is expected to launch two new iPaq devices on 4 October - the launch date for Microsoft's new Pocket PC operating system - code-named Merlin.
The two devices to be released include one in the H3700 range and a high-end device in the H3800 range with a higher-definition colour screen, according to US wires.
Both will ship on Intel-made StrongARM processor cores, with 32MB of flashable ROM and 64MB of RAM.
Most major handheld device manufacturers are expected to launch new Merlin-based products on or before Microsoft's launch date of 4 October.
Cnet.com reported that Compaq had confirmed that product launches were scheduled for 4 October, but Compaq's UK press office was unable to confirm this.
Compaq's takeover partner HP has announced two new Jornadas based on Merlin, due to ship on 4 October.
