The BBC is continuing with plans to launch a free digital television service in the UK with a summit planned for later this month at which it will discuss the details of the offering with other parties looking to join the digital coalition.
The summit is planned for 29 November, according to the Guardian, and will concentrate on the BBC's plans to launch a digital set-top box that will enable viewers to receive around 20 free-to-view channels for a one-off charge for the box. The Beeb will also meet with broadcasters and programme makers, such as Channel 4, ITV and UKTV to ensure a broad range of programming when the platform launches.
Although no date has been given for the launch of the service, the Guardian suggests the BBC will start a campaign extolling the virtues of free-to-view digital TV in March next year.
