Underdog in the browser war Opera launches version six of its eponymous software today.

Opera 6 can support languages not written in Roman script for the first time, such as Russian and Japanese.

The company has also fixed a security hole which exploited a Java vulnerability to give unauthorised access to files through the browser.

Opera has been widening its reach, offering versions for mobile operating systems Symbian and for Psion.
