Symbian gets a £35m boost

War chest swelled for bloody fight with Microsoft...

Symbian is set to announce a financing deal worth around £35m that is expected to see the group, which licenses its operating system for wireless devices such as PDAs, through to profitability.

The money comes at an important time for Symbian as it will be able to use some of it to promote its product and try to raise its profile in order to keep pace with Microsoft which has its monopolistic sights set on the wireless market.

The fundraising is a result of a widening of Symbian's shareholder group - Japanese giant NTT DoCoMo is expected to be among the new members of the group, which already includes mobile phone behemoths Nokia and Ericsson.
