The long-awaited iMac version 2.0 is expected to be unveiled in the San Francisco Macworld Expo in early January.
The consumer desktop model, which was largely responsible for turning around the computer maker's fortunes, has remained largely unchanged since its debut in 1998.
In a report, Morgan Stanley analysts claim Apple has placed components orders for 100,000 15-inch flat panel displays per month - long thought to be the key feature of the iMac's latest incarnation.
Apple has been heavily discounting its iMac range in recent months and is offering a free digital camera with each machine sold in some deals on its online store.
What do you think will help rejuvenate sales of the computer? Add a reader comment and let us know what features you'd like to see in the new iMac.
